A word from the Samantha Romero, creator of SVI ~
"The goal of the Student Voter Initiative (SVI) is to empower our youth by listening. The youth are often criticized for being too naive, too green, and too optimistic. Being young can be an overwhelming time where you're eventually thrown into the world with no idea what the future holds. Because of this uncertainty, it is consequently a time filled with advice, guidance, instruction, suggestions and recommendations coming from everyone in every direction.
The SVI provides students an opportunity to discuss their ideas, potentially leading to a productive conversation and creative solutions. This initiative welcomes questions, ideas, brainstorming and inspiration. SVI recognizes social challenges and offers a space for opinions to be voiced. SVI is a 1-2 day lesson whose goal is to engage civic participation. Ou youth need to be reminded that their voices matter, their vote matters, and that voting and jury duty are social obligations. Graduating high school, turning eighteen, and voting are cultural symbols of adulthood - rite of passage. Providing students the opportunity to voice their opinion in their society is a milestone that must be recognized."
